About the Course

Gullane Golf Club – No. 1 Course

Gullane Golf Club's No. 1 Course is one of the finest and most underrated links in Scotland. Established in 1882 on the slopes of Gullane Hill in East Lothian, the course climbs to elevated ground in the opening holes before descending back to the lower links, offering sweeping views across the Firth of Forth, Edinburgh, and on clear days, the mountains of the Highlands beyond.

The course was shaped by Willie Park Jr and later refined by James Braid, and it retains the natural, flowing character of classic links design. The routing makes full use of the hill's contours, with elevated tees, natural dune formations, and a variety of hole shapes that demand creativity and course management. The views from the top of Gullane Hill are among the finest in Scottish golf.

Gullane has hosted the Scottish Open and the Women's British Open, and it sits within one of the most concentrated collections of great links courses in the world — Muirfield is two miles away, North Berwick five miles, and the Renaissance Club four miles. For any serious East Lothian itinerary, Gullane No. 1 is an essential inclusion.
